Ocean Miner
by Cynthia Reeg

How very wealthy I would be
If only I could mine the sea.
She sparkles with a thousand jewels
When the sun lights up her molecules.

Pearl white, aquamarine,
Golden topaz, emerald green,
Inky onyx, sapphire blue,
Garnet red, purple amethyst, too!

Every gem fit for a queen
In the ocean deep I’ve seen.
By now I should be a zillionaire
Wearing ruby rings and golden underwear.

But each time I try scooping salty souvenirs,
The greedy ocean queen makes them all disappear.
