Tips For Writers

Character Development

Here's a short list of information that you might want to know about your characters before beginning a story. You can add any information that you consider necessary for each character depending on the length and complexity of your story. Interview your character. They'll have lots of interesting tidbits to tell you.

  • The age and gender (birthday)
  • Home environment (family, country, city) and any important past or present changes which have affected the character
  • Important family members, pets and friends
  • Physical traits even if you won't specifically mention them in the story
  • Personality traits, likes and dislikes
